Publish or Perish: The Art and Science of Publishing Journal Papers

Writing for academic journals is a highly competitive and difficult task. Even if you overcome the first challenge and generate an interesting idea, how do you sum it up into a manuscript that will capture the interest of editors and reviewers? This workshop is a guide to the complex world of journal article publishing and is designed to give participants some practical lessons and tips for publishing articles in peer-reviewed academic journals.  The goal of the workshop is to help participants understand the journal publishing process and learn to take an idea and work-in-progress through a successful publishing experience. The workshop bridges the research, writing and publishing stages, with a particular emphasis on research output and developing a winning publication strategy. This workshop is open to all researchers at all levels.  Those who benefit most from this workshop are: (1) graduate or doctoral students hoping to publish a research paper or a chapter from their dissertation, (2) postdoctoral fellows aiming to establish themselves, and (3) faculty members under pressure to publish for jobs or tenure. Dr. Tavana has a distinguished track-record as a highly published researcher with over 250 research papers and 12 books, as well as experience as an editor for several international journals.
